Limiting speed
Speed limiters are installed on the majority of company-owned and third-party fleet service providers’ vehicles across the country. Speed limiters are built-in microchips that allow fleet managers to set the maximum speed at which a vehicle can travel. Where installed, the speed limiters are set to a top speed of between 90 and 105 kilometres per hour, the speed at which the Canada Safety Council estimates a typical tractor-trailer unit can achieve fuel savings of up to 10,500 litres of diesel fuel per year. Travelling at these lower speeds also reduces wear and tear on the equipment and the risk of accidents.
