The Canadian Roundtable for Sustainable Beef (CRSB) is a National multi-stakeholder initiative developed to advance sustainability efforts within the cattle industry. Sobeys Inc. aligns with the CRSB’s vision that the Canadian beef industry be recognized globally as an environmentally sound, socially responsible and economically viable supply chain. As an associate member, Sobeys Inc. collaborates with stakeholders such as Cargill, World Animal Protection, and the National Cattle Feeders Association in discussions on Canadian beef sustainability.
NFACC builds processes that facilitate a national and inclusive approach to advance farm animal care. As an associate member, Sobeys engages with producers, veterinarians, researchers, manufacturers and industry organizations in a science-based process designed to standardize animal codes of practice and care assessment.
A global trade and industry association representing the world’s leading consumer goods retailers and manufacturers, the CGF has a mandate on developing common positions on key issues affecting the consumer goods industry, including sustainability.
Advocating on behalf of the food retail industry, FMI is an American-based organization that offers resources and benefits to more than 1,225 food retail and wholesale member companies in the United States and world-wide. FMI offers programs in public affairs, food safety, research, education and industry relations. Sobeys is a member of the FMI Sustainability Executive Committee.
The RSPO is an association composed of various organizations from different sectors of the palm oil industry, including palm producers and processors, manufacturers, retailers, investors, and NGOs. The objective of the RSPO is to promote the growth and use of sustainable palm oil through credible global standards and the engagement of stakeholders.
RCC is a not-for-profit, industry-funded association representing more than 45,000 store fronts of all retail formats across Canada, including department, specialty, discount, and independent stores, and online merchants. Sobeys is an active member of the RCC Sustainability Steering Committee.
The National Zero Waste Council is a leadership initiative bringing together governments, businesses and non-government organizations to advance waste prevention in Canada. As a member, Sobeys engages with like-minded industry leaders to collaboratively discuss waste prevention and exchange knowledge in support of a circular economy. A circular economy is the concept of extracting the maximum value of resources whilst in use, then recovering and regenerating them at the end of life.
Partners in Project Green is an initiative led by the Greater Toronto Airports Authority and Toronto and Region Conservation Authority, that works with leading businesses to help promote the adoption of sustainable business practices and green bottom-lines. Sobeys’ corporate office is within PPG’s proximity; therefore, we work closely with them.
World Animal Protection is an international non-profit animal welfare organization that works globally with governments, the UN, businesses, and other animal welfare organizations, to help end animal cruelty and bring animal welfare awareness. Sobeys consults with WAP when making any decisions related to animals in our supply chain.
The Sustainable Fisheries Partnership is a non-governmental organization (NGO) that is reshaping the world of corporate social responsibility in the seafood supply chain through the creation of powerful information tools that allow companies to directly engage with suppliers. As a partner, Sobeys utilizes the reliable and detailed information on the sustainability status of purchased fish through the information tool, SFP Metrics. This database provides Sobeys with transparency in our supply chain and the ability to confidently report externally.
