Food safety vision
Our food safety vision is based on strengthening our current foundation of food safety policies, establishing a strong core program while continuing to emphasize food safety processes as key focal points.

In support of our policy and vision, the key areas where we continue to be industry leaders in food safety implementation include:
- Standards: Sobeys continues to lead the retail industry in the full implementation of the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) food safety model adapted by the Canadian Council of Grocery Distributors and the Canadian Federation of Independent Grocers.
- Audits: Development of a National Harmonized Food Safety Audit based on the Sobeys’ national food safety standard. This includes the development of an automated audit process that will enhance the traditional audit process and create a database of information that will be an effective tool for identifying opportunities.
- Training: Sobeys’ operating regions fully support the Canadian Council of Grocery Distributors FoodWise Food Safety Training Program for food handlers. This program offers numerous efficiencies, benefits and significant savings over previous food safety training models.
- Recalls: Sobeys continues to be the industry leader in product recall execution. This has been accomplished predominantly by focusing on enhanced retail execution along with the development of our intranet recall quantity reporting and confirmation of action systems and protocols.
- Pest control: Working with our pest control service provider, Sobeys has developed pest control activities and control measures that are at the leading edge of current industry practices.
