Managing sustainability at Sobeys
Our goal is to integrate sustainability into every aspect of our day-to-day business activities. Today, our store and distribution centre operations teams and our facility development teams are at the forefront of our sustainability activities as they strive to manage and reduce power consumption and increase waste diversion from landfills toward recycling.
At the same time, we are developing programs to engage, educate and enable our employees to more fully integrate sustainability across our company. Consistent with our business structure, our regional and division operations drive the implementation of our sustainability strategy and environmental compliance.
At the heart of our sustainability infrastructure are our:
- Corporate Social Responsibility Committee which sets policy and guidelines. It includes our President & CEO; Chief Marketing Officer; Senior Vice President, National Procurement; Vice President, Communications and Corporate Affairs; Vice President, Retail Strategy & Sustainability and other senior executives with subject matter expertise.
- Sustainability Share Groups that were created to enable swifter and more substantial action by focusing on our retail stores, distribution centres and logistics operations. Each group has participants from our business units and our national office.
