Bag 2 Bag program
To further reduce the number of plastic bags that end up in landfills, we introduced in-store collection bins for used plastic bags in our stores. Since this initiative launched in 2006, we have collected over 247 million used plastic bags. The bags collected are recycled to make plastic products including plastic grocery bags.
It is important to note that during the past year, we experienced a significant decrease in the number of plastic bags collected through this program. We expect this trend to continue, since it is directly related to the tremendous reduction in the number of plastic bags used by our customers. Less plastic bags used; less plastic bags returned.
