Sobeys Ontario recently introduced an energy awareness program to ensure that energy conservation awareness and implementation starts "at the top". The program aims to ensure that operations management understand the energy conservation investments being made across the region and their associated environmental benefits and cost savings, to raise their level of commitment to reduce energy consumption in all areas within their responsibility.
To achieve this, Sobeys Ontario's Energy/Sustainability & Maintenance department delivers "Controlling Our Costs" presentations to provide operations management with an in-depth view of year-over-year comparative store energy usage reports, and meets with leaders from our network of store banners each month to review the progress being made and opportunities for improvement.
While this program is still in the early stages of implementation, we are confident that our management team will gain a deeper understanding of the environmental benefits and cost savings that could be achieved through energy conservation efforts and as a result, implement sustainable initiatives to further reduce energy use and its related costs.
