How is Sobeys Inc. protecting its store employees?

We are doing everything possible to protect our frontline heroes. For more information, please refer to the list on the measures we are taking to keep our customers and teammates safe.

How is Sobeys Inc. handling sick employees during COVID-19?

We have instructed teammates who are sick and/or who have been in contact with someone who is sick or has traveled to high-risk destinations to self-quarantine for 14 days. These measures help our employees protect themselves, other teammates and our customers.

We’re supporting our teammates who need to be away from work because of self quarantine or to care for family members at home so they do not need to choose between their health or family and their income.

How is Sobeys Inc. financially supporting those in self-isolation/self-quarantine?

During COVID-19, top-up programs are in place to support teammates who are in self-quarantine for two weeks and for those taking time off work to care for dependents or children.

How is Sobeys Inc. protecting its customers?

Our customers are an extension of our family and we continue to find ways to ensure the health and safety of our store visitors. Please refer to the list for additional information.

What is “Seniors Shopping Hour?” When does it take place?

“Seniors Shopping Hour” is available for the first hour of the day at many of our stores to provide seniors and those most vulnerable in our communities a dedicated time to shop. For more details, please contact your local store.

Is Sobeys Inc. doing anything to support local communities during COVID-19?

We have introduced the Community Action Fund across the country, empowering our fellow teammates and more than 1,500 stores to help find local solutions for their communities’ most urgent needs. Our stores know their communities best, and this program will result in an immediate infusion of millions of dollars into communities across Canada, allowing for quick, direct action.

Take our Dartmouth team in Nova Scotia, for example. We heard that LakeCity Works, a social enterprise that provides employment opportunities for people with disabilities, was struggling to feed their vulnerable clients who were self-isolating due to high risk. Without hesitation, Team Sobeys Inc. joined forces and used the Community Action Fund to create pre-packaged hampers with core shelf-stable items to help ensure that the LakeCity Works clients have access to essential pantry items for weeks to come.

Is Sobeys Inc. hiring additional employees during COVID-19?

Is Sobeys Inc. running out of food? I’ve noticed some empty shelves in stores.

We are receiving regular shipments of supplies to our stores, and our teams are working hard to keep our shelves filled at this unprecedented time. We have every confidence in Canada’s strong and secure food supply chain, and our warehouse and distribution teams are working around the clock to speed up the movement of food and supplies to our stores to refill shelves. If you see an empty shelf, know that it will be full again shortly.

What will you do if one of your store employees tests positive for COVID-19?

We will always do everything we can to keep our teammates and customers safe.

  • We strictly enforce that teammates who feel sick do not come into work.
  • If one of our teammates tests positive for COVID-19, we will follow the direction of public health every step of the way.
    • We will close and deep-clean as directed by public health.
    • We will work closely with public health officials to investigate the teammate’s known points of contact and recent shifts. To keep stores safe, we will notify all teammates who require self-isolation for two weeks.
  • We have created a new page on our website to keep all Canadians informed of our evolving response to this challenging situation. We will post up-to-date company and store specific information below.

We will continue to update our COVID-19 tracker to be transparent with you where we have experienced cases of COVID-19 in our stores. Out of respect for our teammates and their confidentiality, we will never release any personal information about our people. We will always do everything we can to support our teammates and ensure their safety. Where required, we will communicate with customers who have shopped in the impacted location, with store signage, outlining our steps to manage the situation.
